“Two
years ago, we bought a lot and built a new house in Mid South. As
soon as we bought the lot, we called Gail so that we would be on her schedule
and she would have time to ponder this new space.
The new lot looks out over a lake and the golf course. It is a totally
different sort of space than the one we were coming from.
Gail drew the most amazing plan – with lots of ferns and grasses
and a deck that sits between the house and the lake – just the right
place to have breakfast, or lunch or relax with a glass of wine and enjoy
the wildlife that appears on and around the lake.
“We
adore Gail and her ability to pull together landscape ideas that fit our
needs and wants.”

Scribner’s
#1 Project: Southern Pines
(top 2 left)
This was a beautiful property set on North Valley Rd. It was the first
job where I was asked take out a swimming pool rather than put one in.
The Scribner’s are big garden enthusiasts and I wanted to do something
that would be worthy of their trust and that wonderful setting. The back
was long rectangular space. By adding a curved stone retaining wall, we
were able to divide the space into two areas that gave both spaces more
interest. Under the Scribner’s care and management, the garden has
flourished and is still one of my favorite gardens.

#2 Project: Mid-South Club (3rd on left)
The landscape garden we created at Mid-South has a totally different look
from the Scribner’s prior garden in Southern Pines. The lot had wonderful
view of a lake and the golf course, and we wanted to find a way to preserve
those views, while still finding a way to create an area to enjoy the
outdoors with some sense of privacy. I love creating structures, and an
idea began to take shape in my mind of a low to the ground deck among
the Maples trees, that would be surrounded by Autumn ferns. Other areas
of color were created to add seasonal interested in the front and around
the areas close to the house, but my favorite area around is the deck.
You see it
from almost all of the indoor viewing areas, and it just makes the space
and creates a feel that says, “Come out, relax, and sit awhile and
admire the surroundings” |
